Choosing a bra for a fuller bust

Quick answer

For a fuller bust, choose a bra with a firm, wide band (it does most of the support), full coverage cups, wider straps and three or four hooks. Most women wear a band that's too big and a cup that's too small — e.g. 38B instead of 36D — so measure first; sore shoulders usually mean a loose band.

Sore shoulders, straps that dig in, a band that rides up at the back — most women with a fuller bust think it's just how bras feel. It isn't. Almost always, it's the size.

The band does most of the work

Around four-fifths of a bra's support comes from the band, not the straps. If the band is too loose, the straps take the weight — and that's the ache in your shoulders at the end of the day.

The band should sit level and firm, and feel snug on the loosest hook when it's new. It loosens with wear, and then you move to the next hook.

You probably need a smaller band and a bigger cup

The most common mistake is a band that's too big and a cup that's too small — say 38B, when the real size is 36D. It happens because most bras in Pakistan are sold without measuring. Both sizes hold a similar volume (sister sizes), but only one supports.

Two minutes with a tape tells you which: how to measure, or let The Measure do it.

What to look for

  • A full coverage cup that holds all of the breast, with nothing spilling at the top or the sides.
  • Wider, padded-feel straps that spread the weight instead of cutting in.
  • A wider band with three or four hooks.
  • A centre that lies flat against the chest.
  • Smooth cups that keep their shape under a fitted kurta.

Wired or wireless?

An underwire gives the most lift and shape; a good wireless bra with a firm, wide underband is kinder on long days and in the heat. Many women keep one of each. See full coverage bras and wireless bras.

When it fits

You stand a little taller, your shoulders stop aching, and your clothes sit better. Feeling beautiful really does start with the right fit. If your size isn't listed yet, tell us on WhatsApp and we'll message you when it arrives.

Questions

Why do my bra straps dig into my shoulders?
Usually the band is too loose, so the straps carry the weight. Try a smaller band (and a bigger cup to match).
Is a wireless bra supportive enough for a fuller bust?
It can be, if the underband is wide and firm. For the most lift, an underwire is still best.
