What is a babydoll nighty — and how to choose one
Quick answer
A babydoll is a short, loose nighty that is fitted or tied at the bust and falls open below it. Most babydolls are one free size: the bust ties or stretches and the body is cut loose, so it fits most women from small to large. Choose lace or net for an occasion and a silky fabric for everyday; red, black and maroon are the most chosen colours.
Short, floaty and held at the bust — the babydoll is the nighty most women buy first, because it is the easiest to get right.

What makes it a babydoll
Three things: it is short (it ends at the top of the thigh), it is gathered or tied just under the bust, and from there it hangs loose. Because nothing is fitted at the waist or hip, it is forgiving in a way a fitted slip is not.
How free size fits
Most babydolls come in one free size. The straps adjust, the bust ties or has stretch, and the body is cut wide — so the same piece fits most women. If you are very petite or wear a larger cup, look for a style with a tie front or adjustable straps, and remember there is a 14-day exchange on anything unworn.
Fabric
- Lace — the classic for an occasion; it shows and hides at once.
- Net — light and sheer, usually with embroidery or a bow.
- Silky — smooth and cool, the most comfortable to actually sleep in.
Colour
Red and maroon are the most chosen in Pakistan, and the traditional choice for a wedding night. Black is the safest if you are unsure. White and baby pink read as bridal. See them by colour: red, black, white and bridal.
Ordering it quietly
Everything arrives in a plain parcel with no brand name and nothing on the outside that says what is inside. Pay cash on delivery. If you want a matching set to go with it, a pair saves a little on both.
